Who is actually celebrating this 4th of July? Of course the fascist oppressors in power are celebrating because they have put in place an unchecked system that no one is opposing. It’s not the time to be partying for America because our country does not stand for democracy but for oppression. Even if genocides were not taking place and elected officials weren’t trying to abduct immigrants and slowly kill Americans through the elimination of crucial programs, our country is founded on stolen land that dehumanized native peoples and disregarded their sovereignty over their land.
So what can you do to make a change on this 4th? Don’t have a celebration, have discussions about the deteriorating state of our leadership and what can be done. This is the time to network with the people closest to you where change can actually be made.
One thing everyone can do for their community and wildlife is to forego the fireworks all together and enjoy nature instead in its undisturbed state. Fireworks are a huge fire threat. Fireworks kill wildlife every year. Fireworks kill humans. Why go to a show or light them up and put so many at risk for your own enjoyment? It’s incredibly selfish when the risks outweigh the shallow rewards.
Today should be about connecting and sharing information on the fascist take over and the lack of opposition from anyone in power to counter the fascist take over. Innocent people are being thrown out of the US and disappeared. Innocent people will lose health care and die. Innocent people are being jailed for speaking out against oppression.
Make this 4th be about freedom and the fight for our rights because there is no one else that will save us but us.
We need to unite together and strike in order to remove the fascists from power and transfer that power to the people and establish a true democracy.
